And they are seeing you: meeting the gaze of an alive world – exhibition mini-opening
And they are Seeing you: Meeting the Gaze of an Alive World invites us to consider how we might cultivate deeper, more respectful and loving relationships with all beings. This exhibition explores themes of perception, awareness, and the place of meeting between human and more-than-human life. It celebrates and depicts practices of living attuned to the world around us such as forest walking, food growing, connecting with animals and children, and contemplative techniques of deep listening and flow writing.
Including photography, poetry, and mixed visual arts, it will also showcase the work of many of the participants in Maya’s writing and creativity workshops. These works offer voices united by a vision of deepened ecological, emotional and spiritual connection.
This event will feature a short talk by the subject of many of the photos, Elan Gelman-Ward (aged 9) as he shares the story of his special relationship with Bella the seal.
It will also be the launch of the start of a large collective artwork of many artists and writers of the Co-becoming Practice Community. This artwork will grow over the three months of the exhibition with contribution of workshop participants working with the creative practice of co-becoming, a particpatory creative technique that engages the voices of the more than human world. This is the first “soft launch” of the exhibition, with the main event coming at the conclusion of the exhibition, when the collective artwork is complete, on Saturday April 26th.
The community will be invited to take part via a program of workshops and events in the gallery where techniques of intimate and embodied nature connection will be shared – works created becoming part of a large cumulative artwork.
