Walking the Mountains of Home – Donna Buang

For the ninth year we will be running our community pilgrimage Walking the Mountains of Home — on Sunday May 21st up Mt Donna Buang — our beautiful mother-mountain clothed in fertile rainforest, who, for aeons, has watched over the Valley.

The first part of the walk (3.2km) from near the golf course to the road is very steep and great for the super-keen walkers. Meet at the river at the base of Martyr’s Road at 8.30am to begin together. Maya is leading this group so please be in touch with her 0403 256 165 if you’d like to come.

Those wanting an easier walk or coming with children can meet Cat at 10am and car pool up to meet the first group at the Donna Buang road crossing (about 800m before the 10 mile car park). The walk then goes via Mt Victoria and along the saddle to the summit. This part of the walk is suitable for families. Contact Cat 0403 334 808 to coordinate for this part of the walk.

Both teams will carry river stones to the summit. Bring snacks, water, good shoes, warm clothes, a picnic lunch to eat at the top, and extra warm things as the summit is often many degrees colder than down below. We can carpool down or if you’re keen you can walk all the way back to Birrarung. All are welcome!
